“Reading Animals” in Sheffield, UK July 16th, 2014

This afternoon I arrived in Sheffield, just east of England’s Peak District National Park, to participate in an international conference entitled “Reading Animals,” where some of the world’s leading Animals Studies scholars will be gathering to present and discuss their research. On Friday morning I’ll be giving a talk about English Canada’s early colonial history, focusing in particular on the representation of animals in narratives by British and First Nations authors during the period 1770-1850.  I look forward to learning a lot during the week.
