On Thursday October 10th I’ll be presenting a joint-talk at the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation with Sophie Edwards, a PhD candidate in Geography at Queen’s University.  Among other things, we’ll be discussing Sir Francis Bond Head’s allegation that Anna Jameson, the celebrated author of Winter Studies and Summer Rambles in Canada, stole a skull from an Indigenous burial ground during her 1837 travels on Lake Huron. Given Jameson’s avowed sympathy for Indigenous people, not to mention her claim that she was adopted into an Ojibwe family near Sault Ste. Marie, it’s hard to imagine she could have done such a thing. But as the lieutenant governor of Upper Canada, Sir Francis Bond Head was no mere gossip, so we’ll be giving his allegation–which has only recently come to light–some serious consideration. Did she or didn’t she?
The Ojibwe Cultural Foundation (OCF) is located on the M’Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island, and our talk will commence at 7:00PM. Check out the OCF at http://www.ojibweculture.ca .
