Last night I took in a great show at Nancy O’s, one of Prince George’s main venues for original music. The evening began with a short set by Scott Cook, who opened with one of the best new songs I’ve heard in a long time, a tune called ”Pass It Along” from his excellent new album One More Time Around.  After Scott’s set, Scarlett Jane (Andrea Ramolo and Cindy Doire) took the stage, playing songs from their slick studio album Stranger. Accompanied by Sahra Featherstone on electric violin, Scarlett Jane energized the room with their lively rhythms, tight vocal harmonies, and quirky sense of humour. In between sets, Sahra (my remarkable daughter) performed a few songs on a small Celtic harp to great applause. After the show, I had the pleasure of putting all the musicians up at my place at Ness Lake, where Scott and Andrea jammed in the living room until 2AM while others did laundry and prepared for the next day’s travel. Today I’m pretty tired, but I can’t get the smile off my face. Thanks to Andrea, Cindy, Sahra, and Scott for the gift of live music.
