A very generous review of Songs of William Blake appeared in the latest issue of the journal ISLE (volume 15, number 2). Comparing my musical approach to Blake’s poetry to musical settings previously provided by Alan Ginsberg and US singer-songwriter Greg Brown, the reviewer, Ian Marshall, writes that my CD is “the most successful in blending melodies and instrumentation that combine sensitivity to the themes and tonal qualities of the poems with contemporary ear-appeal.” There is also a nice reference to “masterful licks from Jason Fowler on guitar and Joe Phillips on double bass.” But for me the most gratifying part of the review is the concluding sentence: “It’s flat-out great music.”
