It has been much too long since my last update, so it’s time to mention some belated news. First, at long last, my new book, Transatlantic Upper Canada: Portraits in Literature, Land, and British-Indigenous Relations, was published last autumn by McGill-Queen’s University Press. For details (and a look at the book’s cover), please click here.
As a result of the pandemic, my planned visits to the University of Oxford and Victoria University of Wellington have been postponed until it’s safe once again to travel. In the meantime, I’ll spend the coming months doing research for my new project on The Life and Literary Adventures of Sir Francis Bond Head, and I’ll work to develop two new courses for online delivery in September.
Although the pandemic has made it impossible to perform music in public spaces, I’m continuing to write and record songs with my good friend and main musical collaborator Mike Bon Jorno of Wiesbaden, Germany. You can listen to the “unplugged” version of one of our new songs, titled “Tell Me a Secret,” on YouTube here.
In addition to writing new lyrics and music, I’ve been setting some lovely old poems by John Buchan to music, and I’ve accepted an invitation to perform them for the John Buchan Society when it meets in the UK in March 2022. This is something I’m very much looking forward to!
