The Life and Literary Adventures of Sir Francis Bond Head August 7th, 2019

This morning the University of Northern British Columbia issued a press release to formally announce that the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada has awarded me a $67,000 Insight Grant to fund a four-year research project entitled “The Life and Literary Adventures of Sir Francis Bond Head.” Head (1793-1875) was a Romantic man of letters and bestselling author who governed the British colony of Upper Canada from 1836 until 1838. My project will enable me to hire and train several student research assistants who will help me to produce a book about Head’s life and times, an online critical edition of his selected writings, and several related journal articles, and it will fund research at archives located in Edinburgh, Oxford, London, and Ottawa.
