Last week I finished writing a full draft of my new book and submitted the manuscript to McGill-Queen’s University Press, where it has been under contract since 2009. The 100,000-word manuscript is titled Romanticism, Ecology, Indigenous Governance: Transatlantic Portraits of Upper Canada, and it features essays on Chief John Norton, Chief John Brant, Chief Peter Jones, George Copway, Jane Johnston Schoolcraft, Bishop John Strachan, Sir John Beverley Robinson, Anna Jameson, and Sir Francis Bond Head. Because I’ve been working on several projects simultaneously during the past decade, I was able to write only one chapter each year since signing the contract. Slow but steady hopefully wins the race! I look forward to seeing the manuscript through the peer-review process.
