Happy May Day everyone! This evening I’ll be playing music at the Prince George Labour Council’s annual May Day Dinner, which will be held at the Coast Inn of the North. At the event, members of our local unions will gather to celebrate the history of organized labour and the spirit of solidarity that binds us. My musical repertoire will include classic labour songs such as “The Internationale,” “Union Maid,” “We Shall Not Be Moved,” “Solidarity Forever,” and “Which Side Are You On”–many of which I learned and came to appreciate several years ago on the picket line–and I’m hoping folks will be inspired to help me out by singing along. In preparation, I’ve spent the last several weeks channelling the likes of Woodie Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Mavis Staples and other great musical champions of freedom and solidarity. I look forward to a wonderful celebration.
