Looking southwest across Ness Lake this afternoon I can see a large plume of smoke rising from the Little Bobtail Lake fire, which has been burning for the past three days and has now engulfed 3500 hectares of forest. Although the fire is raging eighty kilometres away from my home, it seems much closer; last night as it burned it lit up the sky near the horizon, colouring the rising smoke and clouds in eerie reds and oranges. Helicopters, heavy machinery, and over 100 firefighters are now on the scene. I wish the firefighters godspeed, safety, and the best of luck as they battle the blaze.
