FWPCA Conference in Las Vegas February 21st, 2015

I’m writing this post at the Palace Station Hotel in Las Vegas, where I’m attending the 27th annual meeting of the Far West Popular Culture Association. So far I’ve seen some very fine presentations, including last night’s brilliant keynote talk and dance performance presented by Peter Steeves and Danielle Meijer of DePaul University, which culminated in a full-cast reenactment of a scene from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Tomorrow morning I’ll be presenting a paper on Bruce Cockburn as part of a panel on pop culture and politics. Since the conference ends in the early afternoon tomorrow and my flight doesn’t depart until Monday, I’ll have a chance to walk along the Strip and witness the spectacle of excess that is Vegas before heading home to northern British Columbia.
