British Romanticism at UNBC January 8th, 2015

This week, after an extended research leave, I was back in the classroom at UNBC, where I’m teaching two Romantic Literature courses:  a third-year class on Gothic Romanticism and a senior seminar on Jane Austen.  From the looks of things, it’s going to be an excellent semester; both classes are well subscribed, and my students have responded with attention and enthusiasm.  Next week in Gothic Romanticism we’ll be studying William Blake’s Visions of the Daughters of Albion and The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, and in Austen we’ll be starting a two-week module on Pride and Prejudice.  Research leave was fun and productive, but it’s wonderful to be back in the classroom again.  What a privilege it is to make my living reading and teaching some of the best literary works in the English language.
