Shadows in the Light now on iTunes March 17th, 2013

My new album Shadows in the Light has just been released on iTunes.  Check it out by clicking here.  The album features 12 new songs written in an eclectic array of musical styles, from the pop-oriented “Superman T-Shirt” to the reggae-influenced “Pretty Good Man,” the blues-inflected “One Step at a Time” to my cover of Jason Fowler’s gorgeous waltz “A Thousand Blessings.”  For me, the most significant tracks on the album are “Ashes to Ashes,” “Okay to Go,” and “When You Have to Leave,” which are performed in honour of my late father.  The last-mentioned song is my latest songwriting collaboration with Grahame Davies, the Cardiff-based Welsh poet who also wrote the lyrics for “Homecoming” (my favourite song on Light to Shine) as well as ”Midwinter” and “Benediction” (from On the Bridge You Were Burning).  The new album features splendid instrumental work by Michael Johnston (of Skydiggers fame) and Jason Fowler (guitarist and music director for John McDermott).  Special signature appearances by guitarist/lap steel player Christine Bougie (on “Superman T-Shirt” and “Likelike Highway”) and violinist/harpist Sahra Featherstone (my talented daughter, who performs on “Ashes to Ashes” and “When You Have to Leave”) give the album added colour and exuberance.  I was fortunate as well to work again with bassist Maury LaFoy and drummer Mark Mariash, who bring the bottom end brilliantly to life.  The album as a whole combines light-hearted musical celebrations of love and life with more serious reflections on the mutability of our precious existence.  It was a labour of love.  I hope you’ll enjoy it.
