In Concert with Darrel De La Ronde and Saskia February 25th, 2008

On Thursday evening, March 6th, I will be warming up the stage for Saskatchewan-based musicians Darrel De La Ronde (2008 Saskatchewan Country Music Association nominee for Aboriginal Artist of the Year) and Saskia.  Darrel and Saskia will be performing songs from their new CD, Laura’s Kitchen, which the SCMA has nominated 2008 “Album of the Year.”  Purveyors of eclectic “Prairie Folk” and fine country music, Darrel and Saskia combine rich vocal harmonies and virtuoso finger-style guitar work.  Upbeat original ballads like “Louis Riel” and “Adeline” (a song about the expropriation of Indigenous land in southern BC) get the blood pumping vigorously; gorgeously crafted love songs like “Inside Out” tug on the heart strings and send shivers up the spine; raunchy blues numbers like “Road Less Travelled” make one want to dance and sing along.  When you hear their sounds, you will understand why Darrel and Saskia have been nominated for prestigious SCMA awards, and why two of Saskia’s songs have reached the EMI charts in Europe.

My friendship with Saskia reaches back to the days–longer ago than either of us would care to admit!–when we both toured the bars and pubs of British Columbia.  Since those days Saskia has kept the musical faith in a wonderful way.  I’m honoured that she has invited me to perform in her upcoming concert with Darrel.
